The school operates between 8.30 am and 3.00 pm and teacher supervision
is available for these hours. We ask that children are not in attendance
either before or after these times except in special circumstance.
When the bus arrives before 8.30 am, the children are to sit on the
lunch seats until a teacher begins playground duty at 8.30 am.
School Uniform
All children are expected to wear our school uniform. The uniform is
practical, relatively cheap and easy to care for. Your child’s sense of
pride, identity and school loyalty is strengthened when he/she wears the
school uniform.
Teachers are easily able to recognise a child in uniform when conducting
an excursion or sports event. Our uniform assists motorists when
children use the road because it stands out. Children are more likely to
be ready for the school day when dressed in uniform.
The uniform for boys is:-
· Red polo shirt
· Grey shorts, track pants in winter (black)
· Sports shoes
· Grey or white socks
· Red school jumper
· Red school hat
For girls:-
· Red over blouse
· Grey pleated skirt/skorts, track pants in winter
(black)
· White socks
· Sports shoes
· Red school hat
Boys Sport Uniform:-
· Black shorts
· Red/white polo sports shirt
Girls Sport Uniform:-
· Black bike pants under grey skirt
· Red/white polo sports shirt
Uniform free days will be held during the year.
Uniforms can be purchased at the office. These are provided by the P & C
and are competitively priced.
Absences
Any absence by a child must be explained either by personal contact, a
phone message or a note when the child returns to school. This is a
requirement by law. (See attached absence note)
Change of Routine
Your child’s teacher will need to be notified of any change of after
school routine. Written notice is preferable or a call to the front
office assists with our end of the day departures and keeps your child
safe. It prevents confusion with our younger children.
Staff will not change your child’s routine without clear instructions
from any parent/care giver. (See attached note)
Medicine
Schools are not permitted to administer medicines unless these are
prescribed by the doctor and parents authorise their use by providing a
written note.
Occasionally a child will be upset because of illness, family
bereavement or other happenings outside the school. A brief explanation
will assist teachers in their dealings with the child, and could do much
to help the child at school.
We have a sick bay where ill children may rest under supervision. If
your child is showing quite ill symptoms we notify the parent/caregiver.
School Bus
The bus operates only for the benefit of Tucabia Public School pupils.
Temporary use by other student passengers may be negotiated with the bus
company for a small fee. Children should remember the safety rules of
the bus and should be well behaved at all times.
School Banking
Students may deposit their savings with the Commonwealth Bank’s
Dollarmite accounts each Wednesday morning, through the school.
Our school receives a small commission for each transaction.
School Canteen
Canteen is conducted each Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the use of
the pupils. Reasonable prices are charged for a wide range of foods and
drinks.
All parents are encouraged to assist in the canteen on a roster system.
If you would like to help out in the canteen please leave your name at
the school and you will be put on the roster. It’s a great way to be
involved and your child will enjoy your presence at school.
If you are on canteen duty you are entitled to your lunch and a drink
free, but we have to ask that you pay for any accompanying children’s
lunches. A lunch voucher is also supplied for use by your child on the
next canteen day, as a small appreciation of your commitment and
involvement.
Each day is set out step by step and newcomers can be paired with an
experienced parent.
A recommended starting time for canteen duty is 10.45 am. Parents on
duty handle recess sales (11.10-11.30 am), preparation of lunches, and
after lunch sales (1.15-1.30 pm). If you are unable to do your rostered,
day please arrange a replacement or, as a last resort, phone the canteen
roster supervisor. Advance notice where possible would be appreciated
Lunch orders are to written on brown paper bags (available from any
supermarket) and put into the lunch order slot at the front of the
canteen by 9.00 am. Change is given personally to the child.
Non-canteen days, lunches may be ordered at the Tucabia Store by 9.00
am.
